NAKASI High School under-19 players hope to learn as much as they can despite losing to Lelean Memorial School 65-7 in round one of the Fiji Secondary Schools Eastern Zone rugby competition last week. Team technical adviser Temate Kerau said they were happy to be accepted to participate in the competition.

“We formed a team last Thursday when our school principal gave us the permission to take part,” Kerau said.

“We then gave consent forms to the students for their parents’ permission to play. “We are here to get our players exposed and get them to learn as much as they can. “Most of our iTaukei players have their interest in playing rugby, so by forming a team, we are giving them a chance to expose their talents. “Another reason for joining the competition is to get our players improve on their discipline.

“Majority of these players come late to school. We are trying to help them improve on their discipline, so by playing rugby it will help them.”

Kerau said the success gained by former student, Jerry Tuwai, the Fiji Airways Fiji 7s captain and Olympian had motivated the players to work hard.

Despite losing their first game, the Nakasi High School U19 rugby team hopes to improve on their attack and defence before their next game this week.
