Playmaker Terio Tamani will lead the Fiji Airways Fiji men’s 7s side in the Valladolid 7s in Spain when it kicks off tonight.
This was confirmed by head coach Osea Kolinisau.
Tamani’s vast experience in various capacities has earned him the nod to captain the side this weekend, as it journeys forward into the second leg of the Championship format of the HSBC SVNS.
His selection for the role of skipper comes after assistant coach Jerry Tuwai praised his performance and work ethic during a scrimmage session prior to their departure for France.
“He has progressed through different systems, played alongside experienced players and I have seen him mature over the years,” Tuwai told the media then.
Yesterday, Kolinisau confirmed his selection for the role when asked if he had named his squad for this weekend.
“Yes, we brought 13 players with us and Terio Tamani is going to be captain on this leg,” he shared.
Tamani has also been captain of the national team during the 2019 Pacific Games in Apia, Samoa and his experience in senior roles over the years has placed him in the position to lead the team in Spain this weekend.
This was affirmed by Tuwai earlier this month.
“I believe he is becoming a strong leader and performer, ands I am confident he can lead us in Spain,” he said.
Tamani hails from the village of Ravitaki in Kadavu.
