The event brings together diverse actors  from around the world to leverage the power of food systems to deliver progress on all 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

Pacifi c Island Revolution’s executive director Robert Oliver, who will be presenting at the event, is excited to share the project’s theory of change and groundbreaking impact results.

“Pacific Island Food Revolution’s bold and innovative approach to tackling non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in the Pacific through educational and entertaining media has never been done before.

“But after three years since its inception and reaching millions of people in the Pacific, the project is yielding incredible results which we will be announcing soon,” said Mr Oliver.

Mr Oliver will be announcing a summary of the results of the PIFR Impact Assessment Report results at the event and encourages interested parties to register and tune in via Zoom on Tuesday 6pm.

The report shows that Pacific Island Food Revolution has inspired, educated and promoted local healthy food and the individual countries’ respective cultures as well as improved their understanding of healthy foods and food preparation strategies.

The project is funded by the Governments of Australia and New Zealand.

The UN Food Systems Pre-Summit brings together youth, farmers, indigenous peoples, civil society, researchers, private sector, and policy leaders.

The event aims to deliver the latest evidence-based and scientific approaches to food systems transformation from around the world.

Also participating at the event are the prime ministers of Italy and Iceland, the UN secretary-general, the head of the Catholic Church His Holiness Pope Francis, the Princess of Thailand HRH Maha Sirindhorn, and other dignitaries.

“We are firm in our commitment in activating indigenous knowledge to address the NCDs crisis in the Pacific.

This Pacific problem requires a Pacific solution, and that’s what Pacific Island Food Revolution stands on.

“Our local healthy food is the best solution to our health crisis. “And with COVID-19 in the picture, our local food is important now more than ever,” said Mr Oliver.

PIFR is unlike other initiatives that take a traditional development and medical approach to addressing NCDs.

PIFR tackles the root, societal causes of NCDs and focuses on enhancing awareness of indigenous food and making traditional food more accessible in terms of meal preparation time and costs.

The UN Food Systems Pre-Summit is open to all. Online registration is required by clicking on the website unfoodsystems.org/registration. Registration is free. Pacifi c Island Food Revolution’s presentation is scheduled for 6pm Fiji time on Tuesday, July 27.
