Ten players from Fiji were part of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) — Oceania Olympic Team and Mixed Doubles qualification events in Townsville, Australia.

They were also part of the ITTF-Oceania Senior and Youth Championships too.

For the competition, Fiji worked extremely hard during the competition.

Fiji Table Tennis Association marketing manager Pushpa Wati said the team worked hard to compete both at national and international level like in Townsville, Australia.

“The team will be preparing for the upcoming South Pacific Games that will be held in the Solomon Islands on November this year.

“With new development strategies, training and support, we hope to uplift table tennis to greater heights and bring pride to our nation.”

According to an ITTF-Oceania statement, Australia retained both the men’s and women’s team titles at the Senior and Youth Championships last week.

The federation said success in each event was secured in emphatic fashion, not a single individual match at any stage of proceedings surrendered.

New Zealand came in at second place while Fiji and New Caledonia shared the third position.

The federation highlighted that the success for the Australian men’s team meant they claimed the title for the 15th time, the first being in the inaugural tournament in Auckland City, New Zealand back in 1978.

Also as of last month, the Fiji Table Tennis Association had been running training sessions at the Vodafone Arena and Templetec at Laucala Each Estate.
