The 2022 Nationals Schools Swimming Championships is set to roll. Some schools which are likely to be part of the event include Holy Trinity Primary and Veiuto Primary.

Tailevu-based Ratu Kadavulevu School will compete in the secondary schools division alongside Marist Brothers High School in the boys while St Joseph’s Secondary School and Ballantine Memorial School will battle in the girls division.

In April, Government approved competitive sports in schools through the Ministry of Education.

Minister for Education, Heritage, and Arts Premila Kumar said they were happy to announce the reintroduction of all competitive sports activities in the new academic year.

“The past two years have been very difficult for everyone, including students,” Kumar said.

“We want students to get back to their normal routine as soon as possible.

“Participation in sports also strengthens social bonding of students with their peers and other people around them such as their coaches, opponents, and the spectators, which leads to improved social interaction.

“Together with that, it helps to manage emotions as we are aware of how emotions run high in sports — whether it’s watching a sport or playing it.”
