Rugby fans and spectators in Suva flocked to Albert Park yesterday where members of the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua side held an open training session.

The side conducted drills and did a 30-minute team run before fans were allowed to meet and greet players. Fijian Drua robust winger Selestino Ravutaumada said they were happy to see fans turn up in numbers to show their support.

“We were quite surprised with the turnout of the crowd here today and we thank them all for coming out to show their support for the team,” the 24-year-old said.

“We had a good training session and team run which was very beneficial for us, especially the new and younger players in the squad.”

Ravutaumada hopes the side will have more open training sessions like this whenever they’re in the country because he believes it revives the support from their fans. “I think we should have more training sessions like this where we’re allowed to meet and greet our fans.

“We want our fans to know they are our main motivators whenever we play, so meeting them every once in a while should be beneficial.”

The side plays their very first home game of the 2024 Super Rugby Pacific season on March 9, where they take on defending champions Crusaders at Churchill Park in Lautoka. But before that the team’s first match of the Super Rugby Pacific season is against the Blues in Auckland on February 24.
