Tourism Minister Viliame Gavoka says Fiji has certain advantages in the tourism sector and there is a need to share that with its Pacific neighbours.

The deputy Prime Minister shared this with the South Pacific Tourism Organisation chief executive Petero Manufolau and reaffirmed stronger partnership for the prosperity of regional tourism.

“The outlook is more regional for us. Fiji has certain advantages, and we want to share that with our neighbours in the Pacific,” Mr Gavoka said.

“You will see more cooperation in the coming years.

“The Hon. Fiji Prime Minister leads this Government the Pacific way.”

Mr Manufolau who is also the SPTO chair said they were honoured to have the opportunity to visit the line minister and his experience would bolster tourism in the region.

“Tourism is a big part of who we are as the SPTO and Pacific and with you at the helm, we look forward to guidance in the new year,” Mr Manufolau indicated.

“We are also grateful to the Government of Fiji for hosting and supporting us all these years.”

Mr Manufolau shared that Fiji was a leader in the region and a benchmark for Pacific tourism.

Their discussions also centered on the key outcomes of the 2022 SPTO Council of Ministers Meeting held last year in the Cook Islands.

The minister has also reassured the SPTO of Fiji’s support and explained that moving forward, Fiji will play an even more active role in advancing the Pacific’s regional tourism agenda.
