SEVENTEEN local resorts in the Western Division have had their employees vaccinated with the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine. According to Tourism Fiji, a total of 112 resort workers were vaccinated in Nadi last week.
Tourism Fiji acting CEO Robert Thompson said the tourism industry rallied to get their workers vaccinated.
“Tourism Fiji and the Tourism Recovery Team will continue to support the Ministry of Health and Medical Services in any capacity we can to ensure our people are safe and ready to welcome our guests back to Fiji when the time is right,” he said.
On Thursday, staff from Turtle Island Resort in Yasawa were also vaccinated.
Turtle Island Resort managing director Richard Evanson Jr said after discussions with their staff, they were prepared to take the first dose.
Resort manager Bill Mualele said the vaccination was another step closer to borders reopening. “We are ready for when the borders reopen,” he said.
Meanwhile, Tourism Minister and acting Attorney-General Faiyaz Koya said the vaccination program was an important tool to get Fiji’s borders to reopen for tourists.
“They’ve gone around in stages from the Coral Coast all the way to the Yasawas and quite a few people have registered for the vaccine and I urge all Fijians to register so that they can get vaccinated as well,” he said.
