Executives of the reinstated Social Democratic Liberal Party have asked supporters to forgive them “for letting them down”.

In a statement, the newly elected party executives said the suspension taught them many valuable lessons, the most important being putting the interest of Fijians first at all times.

Signed by party acting president Vijay Singh and acting vice-presidents Ratu Epenisa Cakobau and Ratu Jone Lesuma, they called for unity in the party as it prepared for the 2022 national election.

“We, the management board of SODELPA are very grateful to be able to give back to our people of Fiji, their main Opposition party in Parliament,” the statement said.

The statement said the management board would now have urgent issues to resolve, including but not limited to, the unifying of all members of SODELPA to present a formidable force in the general election.

“We wish to seek the forgiveness of all Fijian citizens and friends of Fiji here at home and abroad for letting you down.

“We pledge that we will work very hard to do justice for you all, and we assure that the interest of every men, women and children in Fiji will be our inspiration to deliver a responsible and responsive government in 2022.”
