SODELPA leader Sitiveni Rabuka has been charged by the Fiji Independent Commission against Corruption (FICAC) in relation to the declaration of his assets and liabilities last year under the Political Parties Act.
Mr Rabuka confirmed this in a press conference outside the FICAC office in Suva a moment ago.
He said he was not aware of the matter but only came to know about it when he was taken in for questioning by FICAC this morning.
“It’s in relation to the registration of political parties and declaration by political party officials,” Mr Rabuka said.
Asked what the charge was in relation to, he said: “It’s all about the returns. My declaration of assets and liabilities,” he added.
And then when asked whether he was aware of his declaration of assets and liabilities, he responded: “No. I knew there were some questions asked, but I didn’t think it would come this far so from here on, it’s to the court.”
The party is still awaiting confirmation on the nature of the charge as FICAC is in the process of filing it.
Mr Rabuka is expected to be produced at the Suva Magistrates Court this afternoon.
