Vodafone Fiji and the Consumer Council of Fiji have urged smartphones users to be aware of calls and messages from Viber, claiming that the users have won a lottery.

Council chief executive officer Seema Shandil raised the issue today after the council received a complaint from a consumer informing that they have been receiving calls and messages on Viber claiming to have won $50,000 cash from Vodafone Fiji.

Vodafone Fiji’s Head of eCommerce Mr Shailendra Prasad confirmed they had also received a few complaints regarding this scam, and have informed their customers that these were scams run by individuals to defraud them.

In a joint statement issued today Mr Prasad said these were not Vodafone run promotions and should be ignored and reported to authorities immediately, advised Vodafone Fiji.
