There will be lots of changes in the civil service as the Coalition Government looks to drive away the culture of fear and intimidation.

This was the assurance by Minister for Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations Agni Deo Singh as he officiated at the Executives Breakfast organised by the Fiji Human Resources Institute (FHRI) yesterday.

During the question and answer session, Mr Singh spoke about how civil servants feared expressing themselves in the past.

“In the civil service, there was a saying. The saying was – you’ll turn 55 tomorrow if you open your mouth,” Mr Singh said.

“Now there is devolution. There is decentralisation in the process. There is going to be decision making down the line with accountability.

“You’ll see a lot of changes, I can assure you that.”

In his address, Mr Singh reminded business executives of the importance of cultivating a culture that bred happy and productive employees.

The Executives Breakfast was attended by top company executives in the Central Division.
