Rewa head coach Rodicks Singh says his side’s defence has improved over the past six rounds of the Digicel Premier League competition after defeating Navua 1-0 at the Uprising Sports Centre in Pacific Harbour on Saturday.

Heading into the match against Navua, Singh said they were expecting nothing short of a battle and was happy with his side for coming out with a win.

“Navua is a tough team, and we expected nothing short of a battle before we played them on Saturday,” he said.

“We were slow with possession of the ball, not having the element of surprise and we were not able to shift Navua’s defence because of that.”

Despite seeing improvements in their match on Saturday, Singh believes there is still a lot of room for improvement.

“Defensively we have improved, and we managed to get a clean sheet and also managed the last quarter of the game where we often lack concentration.

“We’ve learned to analyse every game we play where we look at areas to improve on before the next.”

He praised his side for the efforts on the field, as playing Navua on their home turf was no easy feat.

“We knew what we were getting into as Navua has been performing well in previous games.”

The side is also preparing for the upcoming Oceania Football Confederation Men’s Champions League that will be held in Tahiti next month.

Rewa qualified for the tournament after beating Lautoka 3-2 in the OFC Men’s Champions League playoffs at Churchill Park in February.

“In terms of preparations, we are getting there, but OFC is a different ball game, and we still got a lot of work to be done.”
