A 5.7 magnitude earthquake was recorded in the Lau region yesterday afternoon.

The Seismology Unit of the Mineral Resources department stated the earthquake occurred at 2.13pm.

The seismic activity was recorded 122km Southeast from Tubou, Lakeba in Lau, 371km South-southeast from Savusavu, and 413km East-southeast from Suva.

According to the unit, the moderate earthquake occurred at a deep depth of 559km, and it did not pose any immediate tsunami threat to the region.
