Second Samoa nurse charged for babies deaths

APIA (TALAMUA.COM) – The Samoa Police Service has confirmed that a 52-year old female nurse is the second person to be charged in relation to the MMR Vaccination investigation where two babies died at Safotu hospital early last month.

Police said the manslaughter charge is in relation to the death of the second baby who also died after receiving the MMR vaccination.

The nurse was arrested and charged Wednesday. She has been remanded at liberty with conditions to surrender her travel documents and to sign at the Vaito’omuli police post every Friday. She is scheduled to appear before the Supreme Court for mention 27 August 2018.

Her name is withheld until she appears in court.

Another nurse has been charged with manslaughter as well as conspiracy to defeat the course of justice and negligence and has been released on bail.
