The search continues for the five members of a fishing vessel along the Yasawa-Mamanuca waters.

Fiji Police Force spokesperson Savaira Tabua said the rescue team on board the Royal Fiji Navy vessel RFNS Kikau and the Royal New Zealand Air Force P-3 Orion located the vessel with two crew members aboard and one person aboard a life raft.

“The operation is facing difficulties with deteriorating weather conditions and rough seas,” Ms Tabua said.

She said the Royal Fiji Navy was alerted to the incident on Wednesday, May 19, when six crew members of the Chinese-owned Fiji-flagged vessel FV TIRO II were reported missing.

“We will respond once we receive confirmation of updates on the search and rescue operations.”
