Rooster Chicken Fijian Drua Women’s fullback Atelaite Buna, centre, was impressive in last week’s semi-final win.

The new players in the Rooster Chicken Fijian Drua Women’s squad have lived up to the champion tag of the back-to-back Super W title holders.

Captain Karalaini Naisewa, No. 8, has been impressed with the dedication and determination of their young blood who are experiencing this level of competition for the first time this season.

Wingers Merewairita Neivosa, Adita Milinia and Atelaite Buna are among the new faces that have stamped their mark in Super W this season.

“As we saw in the semi-final, it went down to the wire, we fought in that last 40 minutes even though we were initially down by a point,” Naisewa said.

“Most of the players in the team are new, they’re going to the final for the first time and their fighting spirit is commendable.”

Naisewa is aware that they cannot afford to make the same mistakes they committed in the 25-14 win over the Western Force in the semi-final last weekend.

“There’s a couple of areas that we have to improve on particularly our ball carries, defence, winning possession and actually respecting the ball,” the captain added.

The team resumed training yesterday and will depart for Brisbane, Australia on Wednesday.

They face the Waratahs on Sunday, 4pm at Ballymore Stadium.
