FIJI Airways Drua coach Senirusi Seruvakula said playing catch-up rugby was risky.
He said the side could not afford to play catch-up rugby in future games as the side set its aim of securing a home semi-final.
The Drua trailed the Sydney Rays 19-0 at one stage in their recent game before coming back strongly to win 34-31.
Seruvakula said the upcoming games would continue to get tougher for his troops.
“The catch-up rugby against the Rays was not planned and we cannot afford to play chase-up rugby,” he said. “We need to focus from the start and keep the momentum until the last whistle.”
He said the players had learnt a lot from the two games in Australia and the target was to maintain its spot on top of the points table.
“The message for the boys is to focus with ball in hand and to be disciplined in defence.
“It was a tough two games and a big learning curve from the Queensland Country game as we managed to minimise the mistakes we committed in the first game,” Seruvakula said.
“Every game is going to be tougher and the guys need to step up to this level and be consistent every week.”
He said the boys had to fight for their spots in the coming games.
“We are still number one in the ladder and this week is very important and we need a win to secure a home semi-final.
“We can’t underestimate our opposition and we need to do the process right therefore everybody needs to fight for the position.”
Seruvakula said the side needed to improve on set pieces especially on the line-outs. “We are working on our set pieces and we need to improve against strong teams later in the competition.”
The Drua will play NSW Country Eagles on Saturday in Suva.
