The Tropical Cyclone Cody agriculture rehabilitation package will cost the Government $5.84 million, says Minister for Agriculture- Dr Mahendra Reddy.

He said a $250 cash assistance would be made available to affected farmers and would cover land preparation, cultivation and procurement of planting materials.

Dr Reddy said 250 farms that produced for the export market would each receive a 50-kilogram bag of fertiliser and 10 trays of seedlings of crops they grew for export, as a TC Cody rehabilitation package.

He also said that 20,000 farmers were targeted to receive seed packages to assist in their production and help get them back on their feet. Farmers must visit their nearest agriculture office this week to pick up these seeds.

Dr Reddy said the ministry was also focused on the Growing from Home Gardening program which targeted households in urban and peri-urban areas.

He said the ministry was targeting 20,000 households to receive home gardening seed packages.

“Applications are to be made online through a link shared on the Government Facebook page, Ministry of Agriculture Facebook page, or you can visit any nearest agriculture station.

“Agriculture officers would be verifying the information provided by the farmers in their applications to ensure the data matched what was on the ground.

“If farmers are not able to access the online application, then they can go to their nearest agriculture office where someone will assist them to enter their details.”

Dr Reddy said online applications were now open and would close on January 26.
