Ratu Epenisa Cakobau is still the president of the Social Democratic Liberal Party, says party leader Viliame Gavoka.
“Let me confirm that Ratu Epenisa is president of the party and nothing has changed,” he said from his village in Cuvu, Nadroga yesterday.
He said SODELPA was preparing for next year’s election, which they assumed will be in July rather than later.
“We are in election mode with cylinders firing towards 2022.
“Ratu Epenisa has been providing leadership with activities at the ground level.
“This had to be scaled down due to the restrictions with COVID, but now with the opening of borders, the activities are being stepped up.
“SODELPA is very fortunate with his leadership and he has passion for fairness and due process; totally committed to SODELPA being the custodian and promoter of what we believe in, for today and our future generation.
“His special quality of inclusiveness provides very broad support for the party,” Mr Gavoka added.
Meanwhile, Mr Gavoka said he would comment later on a statement released by the party that complaints lodged against him and the party’s general secretary were being investigated.
According to the statement, the complaint was lodged two weeks ago and the SODELPA management board was empowered under the party constitution to institute a full investigation of any member who is accused of misconduct.
“I will be making a comment later on that issue, “Mr Gavoka said.
