BAU chief Ratu Epenisa Cakobau is still being questioned by Police after he was taken into custody from his island home yesterday morning.

This is the latest confirmation received from Police Commissioner Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho.

Ratu Epenisa was taken from his home on Bau Island at around 6am yesterday by Police and armed RFMF soldiers for questioning regarding the installation of the new Vunivalu of Bau.

It is understood that Ratu Epenisa was at the Nabua Police Station last night and will be taken to Toorak CID for further questioning.

According to Brig-Gen Qiliho, Ratu Epenisa was taken in for questioning including key players after information was received by Police that they were adamant on continuing with the installation ceremony.

This was despite the decision made by the Native Lands Commission to stop the scheduled installation of Ratu Epenisa as the new Vunivalu of Bau over an “unresolved internal conflict” between the members of the chiefly Tui Kaba clan.
