Rooster Poultry general manager Stanley Raniga has been appointed as the new chairman of the Sugar Research Institute of Fiji.

He replaces Lautoka businessman Prakash Chand.

Minister for Sugar, Charan Jeath Singh confirmed Mr Raniga’s appointment and said all other board members of SRIF remain in the position.

The other members are Reshmi Kumari, Bhan Singh, Vimal Dutt, Professor Ravendra Naidu and Ashween Nischal Ram.

SRIF was established in 2006 after it was separated from Fiji Sugar Corporation Ltd through an Act of Parliament.

The establishment of SRIF as an independent organisation paved the way for the institute to apply for donor funding.
