Australia provided more than  $141million in official development assistance (ODA) to Fiji between 2022 and 2023.

And a further $696m from 2019 to 2021.

This, Foreign Affairs Minister Sitiveni Rabuka says, made the Australian Government, Fiji’s largest development partner.

“As for grant financing, Australia is Fiji’s largest development partner, having provided more than AU$95 million or US$62 million in ODA in the 2022 to 2023 period,” said Mr Rabuka in Parliament on Tuesday.

“During the period 2019 to 2021, Australia provided US$306 million to Fiji.”

He highlighted that Australia would be a significant partner in Fiji’s port and services upgrades through an upcoming MOU signing with Australia’s Foreign Affairs Minister Penny Wong.

“As a maritime State, it is critical that ports and related services are developed to international standards and maintained at that level.

“We look forward to cooperating with Australia in the development priority, as articulated in our Vuvale Partnership.”
