The Ra High School Under-19 team players have made their school proud after they secured their spot in the Vodafone Super Deans Champion semi-finals next week at Prince Charles Park in Nadi.

They beat Nasinu Secondary School 15-13 at Bidesi Park in Suva on Saturday.

Coach Luke Serubasaga said they would need to work on defending their line.

“We don’t have the size, but if we can hold on to our defence system and work our way around our opponents it will be an advantage to us. Our focus is on our defence,” he said.

“Another area that we will have to work on is our scrum, our forwards are small, but we will have to go back to the drawing board and come up with a game plan that can help our forwards.

“We will also have to work on our line-out; I guess the boys were a little shaken up since this is the first time we have come into the national competition.

“As the games progressed the boys finally got settled in.”

He added that majority of the players played rugby league.

“When they switched to rugby union most of them had a hard time to adapt to the playing style and most of them this is their first time playing rugby union.

“They didn’t have any basics, so we had to start off from the beginning, let them know of the rules and regulations of the game.

“With all the basics being taught to them they really grasp it well.”

He thanked the parents and supporters for coming out in numbers over the weekend.
