Queen Victoria School has secured their place in the U17 final of the Vodafone Fiji Secondary School Rugby League final at Prince Charles Park next Saturday.

They clinched victory over Ba Provincial School in a tense match that ended 10-10 at full time yesterday.

After two extra time sessions, the win was ultimately awarded to Matamatucou for scoring points first.

The Tailevu-based all-boys school, QVS, dominated the first half, leading Ba Pro 10-0 at halftime.

However, the Westerners gained momentum in the second half, scoring two tries and two conversions. Despite the pressure, QVS held on with a solid defensive structure to secure the win.

QVS captain Joseva Suguturaga expressed gratitude to God Almighty for the team’s strength and fitness.

“We want to thank God Almighty for giving us the strength and fitness.

“I told the boys to play hard and focus on defense,” Suguturaga said.

Next week, QVS will face Marist in the U17 final. Marist earned their spot by defeating Natabua in a closely contested match 22-20.

In the U15 grade, Ba Methodist High School qualified for their first national final after a tough encounter against Sigatoka Methodist. The match ended in a 6-6 draw at full time, but Ba Methodist claimed victory by scoring the first points.

In another U15 semi-final, QVS triumphed over Nabua Broncos 14-8. Ba Methodist’s Head Coach, David Wise, expressed anticipation for their first grand final, acknowledging areas for improvement before their match against QVS.

“We are looking forward to our first grand final, there are few things we need to improve before our match against QVS,” Wise said.

Naitasiri Warriors will play Ba Pro in the U19 final.

Naitasiri Warriors beat Nasinu Panthers 20-16 while Ba Pro beat Ra Roosters 16-14 in the second U19 semi-final to book their spot in the grand final.

In the Open girls category Wainimala Titans will meet Naitasiri Warriors in the school girls Pherrus Trophy final.
