Fiji’s Public Service Commission is on the hunt for qualified permanent secretary candidates for three ministries – Health and Medical Services; Youth and Sports; and Public Works, Transport and Meteorological Services.

And among the criteria for the roles, the PSC stated it sought eligible candidates with well-developed people leadership capabilities.

In a paid statement published on The Fiji Times on Saturday (October 28, 2023), the PSC stated those were key leadership positions responsible for leading and managing their ministries, including policy support and advice.

The roles required eligible candidates to have had high level executive leadership and management capabilities in large and complex service delivery organisations in the private or government sectors.

“They will have led major modernisation and change programs setting strategic direction implementing significant and sustained change, and, will have well-developed people leadership capabilities,” the PSC stated.

“They will be familiar with working in digital environments and different opportunities and demands that this brings. They will have sophisticated stakeholder engagements and relationship management skills, and strong communication and engagement skills.”

It also stated resilience and drive were essential personal attributes it looked for in the roles.

The applications close on November 15.

The incumbents are Dr James Fong – PS for the Health and Medical Services Ministry; Taitusi Vakadravuyaca for the Ministry of Public Works, Transport and Meteorological Services; and Rovereto Nayacalevu for the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
