Previous allegations of financial abuse by the festival committee members reflected an urgent need for the festival reforms, says Minister for Local Government, Housing and Community Development Premila Kumar.

She made this comment during the Festival Regulation Workshop at the Suva Civic Centre today.

“It is the first time that we will have the national festival regulations and the reason to enact it is because of the public outcry on accountability and transparency of the festivals organized around the country,” she said.

Ms Kumar said the National Festival Regulation would ensure that festival committees were responsible for their conduct.
