THE State is expected to file an application on December 8 for the destruction of approximately 640 grams of cocaine allegedly imported from Brazil by a Suva businessman inside a smoke machine.
The matter involving Shonal Sharma was called yesterday before Magistrate Joseph Daurewa in the Suva Magistrate’s Court.
Mr Sharma faces one count of unlawful importation of illicit drugs after Customs and police officers intercepted an October 25, 2025, consignment addressed to his company. Drug-detection dogs flagged the parcel — declared as a “smoke machine” — leading officers to discover cocaine concealed inside a motherboard housing.
Magistrate Daurewa has set a one-week trial beginning May 17, 2027.
