A 34-YEAR-OLD truck driver has been sentenced to eight years’ imprisonment for raping his wife at their family home in the early hours of the morning after she repeatedly refused his demands for sex.
The High Court heard that on May 27, 2026, after returning home from hospital with their sick seven-year-old son, the man asked his wife for sex several times. She refused, saying she was tired and needed to attend to their child.
The man then used force to make her sit on a mattress, raped her, and also used an unidentified hard object in the act.
Justice Daniel Goundar said marriage did not give the man the right to sexual intercourse without his wife’s consent.
The court also imposed a permanent domestic violence restraining order protecting the victim.
The man will be eligible for parole after serving six years of his sentence.
