Exciting matchups are on the horizon next week as top clubs from across the country gear up for the Cecil’s National Club Championship 2024.
The revelation of the pool draws at the Fiji FA Academy in Suva yesterday, has ignited a wave of anticipation and enthusiasm among football fans.
Fiji FA CEO Mohammed Yusuf said it’s a thrilling time as the National Club Championship makes a comeback, providing a platform for grassroots players to shine on a national stage.
“This tournament focuses on showcasing talent from district and local leagues, steering away from commercial interests,” said Yusuf.
“This year promises to crown new champions, as last year’s finalists, Police FC and Green Stars, are notably absent.
“Their absence opens doors for fresh contenders to claim the victory in this year’s competition.
“After eight to nine years, a team from the North, Northpole FC from Labasa, has joined the competition.
“With strong representation from Labasa and a well-established club, they are set to represent the entirety of Vanualevu in the championship.
“A special thanks goes out to Peter Cecil, the director of Cecil’s Pest Control and vice-president of the Rewa team, for sponsoring this tournament.
“His dedication to football and support towards grassroots development is commendable.”
The National Cup Championship will see eight teams from different regions of Fiji vying for the title.
Group A comprises Downtown FC, Rivals FC, Buiduna FC, and Nakasi Police FC.
Group B features Flying Arrows, Blues FC, Friends United, and Northpole FC.
The competition will run from next week from Thursday, December 5 to Sunday, December 8 beginning of the first day at Ratu Cakobau Park, with the remaining days at the Fiji FA Academy grounds in Vatuwaqa.
