The Lautoka swimming pool will not be hosting international or local competitions, but will only be used for recreation.

Lautoka City Council special administrator Ratu Tevita Momoedonu told The Fiji Times last week this was because of the mismanagement of funds by the previous administration.

“It has been reduced from an international pool to a domestic one,” Ratu Tevita said.

“So, in this pool there won’t be any swimming competitions because of the downfall.

“The body that looks after swimming, they know the size required for a pool and that’s the problem that we have.

“So, it is just going to be a public swimming pool where we will operate and get the public to enjoy.”

Deputy Prime Minister Manoa Kamikamica told Parliament last week the swimming pool was not even to the correct measurement.

He said the swimming pool was short by 10 centimetres and was riddled with problems.

The swimming pool is expected to be completed in November.
