The Fiji Police Force says investigations into an alleged assault case involving a former star Fijian Drua player is ongoing.

According to police, the player has not been charged despite the Fijian Drua terminating his contract with immediate effect because of a “high-level breach of the club’s code of conduct”.

“A report was lodged on the 30th of January, however, to date, investigators are still waiting for the victim’s medical report,” a police statement read.

“So the suspect has not been charged and the investigators are awaiting the medical report before proceeding with the investigations.”

Police said there were no other victims involved in the alleged assault as per the report lodged.

Meanwhile, in a statement issued on Tuesday evening, the Fijian Drua club stated that the decision to terminate the player’s contract was made after careful consideration and full due process was accorded to the player.

It said it would not comment further on the matter.
