THE road to futsal glory became clearer yesterday as eight districts discovered their opponents for the 2026 Extra Futsal Inter-District Championship, setting up four days of competition at the Vodafone Arena in Suva from October 22 to 25.

The draw, held at Extra Supermarket’s Laucala Beach branch yesterday, placed defending champions Suva in Pool A alongside Lami, Labasa and Rakiraki.

Pool B features Tailevu Naitasiri, Rewa, Nadi and Ba.

Suva will be determined to retain their crown, but Lami, Labasa and Rakiraki will be eager to upset the champions and strengthen their own title bids.

Pool B presents another competitive contest, with Tailevu Naitasiri aiming to go one step further after reaching last year’s final. Rewa, Nadi and Ba will also be looking to challenge for the title and deny their pool rivals a place in the knockout rounds.

The championship provides another opportunity for districts to add to their futsal achievements, with Suva carrying the pressure of defending their title and their rivals chasing the chance to take it from them.

Extra Supermarket chief marketing officer Lailanie Burnes said the company’s involvement in sport was about more than having its name attached to competitions.

“For us, it’s always been about what we can do for the community and how we can give back to our wonderful people that have supported us,” she said.

With the pools confirmed, Suva’s title defence now has a clear starting point.

Meanwhile, Tailevu Naitasiri and the remaining challengers prepare to make their own push for futsal glory.
