People who do not follow the two metre social distancing requirement inside or outside a supermarket in any containment area will be arrested.
Acting Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu sounded this warning to ensure Fijians adhered to the instructions stipulated under the Public Health Act.
“It was noticed that people still do not adhere to the instructions and are not seriously taking into consideration the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic,” he said.
“This has forced the institution to enforce restrictions on the ground from tonight (yesterday) and take to task those who still do not comply.”
He said police officers would be closely monitoring businesses, employees and customers to ensure they wore face masks before entering their premises. “It is also vital for every driver of a public service vehicle (PSV) and the travelling passengers who are 5 years of age or older to wear masks and minibus drivers are to ensure that all passengers in the minibus are physically distanced from each other.” Mr Tudravu said parents and guardians must monitor their children and advise them of restrictions in place.
“Any person outside a containment zone must not enter the containment zone unless authorised by the permanent secretary for health.
“Those living within a containment zone may only travel for employment, accessing services provided by an essential business or an emergency.”
