THE investigation files of an alleged domestic human trafficking case involving three teenage girls from Nadi has been sent to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for review.
According to police, the case has been linked to one other case of domestic human trafficking in Labasa.
“Initially, two separate reports of domestic trafficking were investigated by the CID’s Human Trafficking Unit,” a police statement to this newspaper said.
“The first investigation had alleged the two suspects had subjected a young girl to domestic trafficking in Labasa.
“The investigation was completed and forwarded to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) on the 6th of June 2026 for independent legal review.”
The report confirmed the second case lodged at the Lautoka Police Station alleged that one of the suspects involved in the Labasa case was also implicated in the Nadi case where three teenage girls were allegedly trafficked to locals.
“The investigation was completed and the file forwarded to the ODPP on the 31st of August 2026.
“As part of the Fiji Police Force’s holistic investigative approach, investigators from the Anti-Money Laundering Unit, are also looking at possible financial crime offences in relation to proceeds arising from the initial allegation of domestic trafficking.”
The ODPP has confirmed receiving the files.
“We confirm that we have received the files (trafficking) which are currently under review in accordance with ODPP standard procedures,” an ODPP statement said.
“At this stage, we are unable to disclose any information regarding the allegations or charges as they are still being assessed.
“Once the review is completed and decisions have been made, we will forward the recommendations to the police.”
