The mysterious death of Jason Rigby in Fiji in December 2024 has become the subject of a new book documenting his family’s grief and ongoing search for answers.
Titled While the Baby Slept: A Family’s Fight for Justice in Fiji Over the Unsolved Death of Jason Rigby, the book is written by Jessica Rigby, Jason’s sister-in-law.
The book recounts how the family’s life changed following a devastating phone call on December 14, 2024, informing them that Jason had died in Fiji.
According to the book’s description, the family was initially told that Jason had died by suicide, but questions surrounding the circumstances of his death have remained.
The book presents the family’s experience of dealing with the tragedy and their determination to seek answers about what happened.
“I used to joke that our life was insane enough to be a book. Then it actually became one,” Jessica writes.
The book describes how grief affected the Rigby family and tested their relationships as they attempted to cope with the loss while pursuing answers.
Unlike a conventional true-crime account, the publication is presented as a personal account written from within the family directly affected by the tragedy.
It also explores the emotional pressures of dealing with a family death that attracted public attention.
Gemma Bath, host of Mamamia’s True Crime Conversations, described the book as “A powerful story of love, loss and an unrelenting fight for answers.”
She also praised Jessica’s resilience throughout the family’s ordeal.
The book’s description presents Jessica as someone who had faced significant personal challenges before becoming involved in the family’s public pursuit of justice.
While the Baby Slept is available in Kindle format on Amazon.
