THE ballot boxes for the 2018 General Election remain guarded by police officers.
This was confirmed in a statement issued by the Fiji Police Force today saying officers from the Police Special Response Unit will continue to guard ballot boxes at the Fijian Elections Office warehouse in Laucala Beach.
However the remaining officers who were deployed for the 2018 Election duties will return to normal routine operations.
“Since the Writ of Elections was issued on the October 1, 2018 Police officers have been deployed for various duties leading up to the return of the Writ yesterday afternoon,” the statement said.
Officers from the Police Special Response Unit were initially deployed to the Fijian Elections Office Warehouse commencing the first phase of special operations while up to 2000 officers prepared for deployment for both the pre-polling, Election day and pre-polling operations.
Officers from various Units were also pushed forward to assist in the four Divisions as the focus was also on ensuring routine operations continued as normal.
