A police constable charged with two counts of bribery was granted a $1000 non-cash bail by the Lautoka Magistrate’s Court last week.

On May 25 last year, Jotish Jaynendra Lal allegedly solicited an advantage of $500 from an individual as a reward for performing an act in his capacity as a public servant.

It is also alleged that on May 26 last year, Mr Lal accepted $400 from another individual for a similar reason.

State lawyer Joshua Prasad told the court the first phase of disclosures had been served.

Magistrate Semi Babitu approved bail for Mr Lal who has also been issued a stop-departure order. The case is adjourned to June 24.

A man was found motionless in waters off the Lami foreshore yesterday morning.

According to police, a resident of the area reportedly discovered the body near the Lami Oceania Wesley Church before reporting it to the Lami Police Post.

Some locals, who wished not to be named, said the man was known by many in town, especially vendors at the Lami market.

Police confirmed an investigation was still in its initial stage.
