AS the world celebrated Earth Day on Monday, the founder of Pacific Recycling Foundation, Amitesh Deo, has issued a passionate plea for unity in the face of environmental challenges.
Mr Deo is calling on national political leaders, particularly those within the Coalition Government, to set aside their differences and come together for the betterment of the nation, its environment, and its people.
“Earth Day serves as a global reminder of the urgent need for collective action to protect our planet,” Mr Deo said.
“This call for unity must begin within our own political sphere.”
Highlighting the significance of Earth Day, Mr Deo emphasised the importance of global citizenship but noted the lingering uncertainty in Fiji, especially among marginalised communities.
“On this Earth Day, we recognise the ongoing struggle for environmental advocacy and stress the vital role of stability and sustainability in safeguarding our planet.
“Without political stability and justice, our environmental goals will remain out of reach.”
Echoing the foundation’s mission to promote sustainable practices, Mr Deo is urging the Government, private sector, and development partners to demonstrate equal commitment in addressing environmental issues.
“We must come together for the greater good — to manage waste and preserve our environment.”
