THE Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva was illuminated with pink lights on October 1 signalling the start of the month-long Pinktober campaign driven by the Fiji Cancer Society.

While speaking at the landmark lighting ceremony, Fiji Cancer Society CEO Belinda Chan said the IHG Group of Hotels have been strong supporters of the annual campaign.

“So, for over five years the Grand Pacific Hotel and the IHG group of hotels have stood beside us illuminating not just this landmark but the hearts of our community,” said Ms Chan.

“Your steadfast support has transformed this annual event into a beacon of hope, a symbol that awareness is not just a word but a call to action.

“So, this year our theme is ‘Awareness into Action’ and ‘Awareness alone is not (0:31) enough’.”

She said the campaign must inspire screenings, encourage conversations and drive support for those walking the difficult journey of cancer.

“So, by lighting this landmark you remind every person that awareness must lead to action because these actions save lives.”

Ms Chan acknowledged the support of the global hotel chain and its local representatives.

“So, to the Grand Pacific Hotel and the Intercontinental Fiji and the Holiday Inn Suva, your commitment has gone beyond hospitality.

“You have become partners in our advocacy, champions of our survivors and pillars of strength for families across Fiji.

“Your light has carried our message further than words could ever and as we stand together tonight, let this pink glow remind us that each of us has a role to play whether through a screening, a conversation, a gesture of support or even a smile.

“Every action matter and together we can turn awareness into action and action into hope.”
