PRIME Minister Sitiveni Rabuka says he does not know whether the Judicial Services Commission (JSC) has proposed a candidate for the substantive Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) Commissioner’s post, as uncertainty also surrounds the whereabouts of the acting commissioner.

Mr Rabuka made the comments during an interview with The Fiji Times at Wailotua No 1 Village in Wainibuka yesterday, following the 2026 draft amendment to the 2013 Constitution public consultation.

He was asked whether the JSC had proposed a candidate for the position, given it had placed an advertised the post on July 11.

“No, I do not know yet,” he said.

“They do not propose to me.”

He said the JSC proposed its candidate directly to the President.

“Yes,” he added.

The Prime Minister was also asked whether he was aware that the acting commissioner’s whereabouts were unknown.

“I have been told … she does not ask me for leave.”

“So I am not aware whether she has left the office. Where she is?”

Section 5 of the FICAC Act 2007 outlines the appointment process for the commissioner, including consultation with the Attorney-General.
