The Social Democratic Liberal Party (SODELPA) needs to go into damage control, says Minister for Education Viliame Gavoka.
He said a number of people were questioning the direction the party was taking and he still did not fully understand the dynamics within the management board.
“The general consensus is if you go by what people are saying on social media, we’ll have a big job ahead of us to repair the damage,” Mr Gavoka said.
“And that’ll be the focus of the SODELPA annual general meeting tomorrow – to repair the damage.
“The party needs to go into damage control and I think it is very evident that a lot of people are questioning the direction the party is taking.
“I’m a minister for three big ministries and I don’t really understand the dynamics within the management board right now.
“When you’re a minister, you have so much in your hands and you need a party that is solid, stable and supporting the ministers.
“I will do what I can to correct it and put SODELPA back on the way where we can be assured of our success in the future.”
Mr Gavoka confirmed with The Fiji Times he was not present at the management board meeting last Friday and that what transpired from the meeting had become a ‘very weird situation’.
“I was officiating at the University of the South Pacific graduation on that day.”
