PEOPLE living in the highlands of Naitasiri acknowledged the Speaker of Parliament Dr Jiko Luveni for coming to their village and explaining to them how the parliament works and how laws are passed.

A 66-year-old resident of the village, Sosiceni Moce, said that taking in new things were not usually easy for them as their minds were restricted to the way things were done in the past.

“Television channels are not accessible in our village and we are so thankful for the Speaker for bringing down this important information to us, the rural dwellers,” Mr Moce said.

“As the first woman speaker and controlling our male-dominated parliament, her role is not easy as she tries to handle the pressure in that environment and tries to make agreeable decisions,” he added.

A similar program will be held in Naqelewai Village in Tavua today.
