Ovalau crowns netball winner

Wardens were crowned the winner of the netball competition at the Fiji Bitter Lomaiviti 7s in Levuka after beating Ovalau Bay 23-14 yesterday.

The side walked away with a $1000 prizemoney. Team manager Asenaca Tina says she is happy that her side was able to achieve its goal of winning the tournament.

They now prepare for the Fiji Bitter Wairiki 7s which will be held in Taveuni next weekend.

“Yes, we are happy that we have been able to achieve our target of winning the tournament,” she said.

“Hats off to the girls for their effort and hard work over the past two days.”

Looking ahead to the Wairiki 7s, Tina said the side would be looking to work on their weaknesses before heading over to Taveuni next week.

Meanwhile, in the volleyball tournament, Brotherhood One and Two dominated the entire competition, as they both headed into the finals undefeated.

Team coach Ilisoni Tabuasuka said he was proud of his side’s performance, as weeks of preparation for the tournament finally paid off.

“We are all happy with our result because we have been working hard for this tournament for the past few weeks,” he said.

He said both their sides only managed to raise enough money to travel to Levuka, and were adamant the would win the tournament which has now enabled them to fund their boat fare back to Suva.

“We were only able to raise money for us to come to Levuka. But the boys were all sure that we would win the tournament and get the prizemoney which will pay go out fare to Suva.”

The teams received $1500, after team one came in first place with $1000 prize money while team two scooped $500 as runners up.

Meanwhile, in 7s results at the Fiji Bitter Lomaiviti 7s, in the under-21 division Village Brothers from Suva defeated Birdland Brothers 10-0 while Seahawks beat Army 15-5 in the women’s division.

And in the men’s division, Fiji Babas managed to defeat a determined Lavidi Brothers side 17-12.
