There are plans by Fiji’s outsourcing industry to penetrate at least 5 per cent of the USA market. Outsource Fiji executive director Sagufta Janif said Fiji’s outsourcing industry was largely 75 per cent to 80 per cent) made up of made up of businesses and clients from Australia and New Zealand.

In a media release Ms Janif said a team from the United States International Trade Commission (US ITC) met Outsource Fiji last Friday as part of their study on the opportunities and impediments for investment and trade between US and the Pacific, including Fiji.

“We have been closely working with Fiji’s Trade Commission to North America, external promotions agencies and other relevant stakeholders to reach out to businesses in an effort to create discussions about the country’s outsourcing industry, however, we need more resources to successfully promote the industry in the USA market,” said Ms Janif.

According to Outsource Fiji discussions also focused on the need for policies, infrastructure development; and industry talent development. Fiji’s Trade Commissioner to North America, Alika Cooper said the sector had huge potential in the United States given Fiji’s unique human capital, and exceptional quality and delivery of service.

“Promoting Fiji’s unique outsource offering is an area we are actively advocating and will continue to promote as the Trade Commission office expands its networks and reach in the North American region,” he said.

Meanwhile co-founder of Outsource Fiji’s Pacific office and BPO Council of Fiji vice-president, Brad Russell also joined the discussion to share his experiences and insights of operating in the industry.
