Five months after he labelled the purchase of a $200,000 vehicle by sacked Fiji Broadcasting Corporation CEO Riyaz Sayed-Khaiyum as “extravagant”, FBC chairman Ajay Bhai Amrit is mum as to what has happened to the car.

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum purchased the vehicle from New Zealand last year and it arrived into the country in January this year.

His contract was terminated on January 30, following a vote of no confidence by the FBC’s board of directors.

On January 31, Mr Amrit said the vehicle would be tendered, and the money redirected back into the company.

A tender notice was advertised in local media outlets on March 20, 2023, and entries closed on March 27.

The notice said that the vehicle was available for inspection at an address in Naulu, Nakasi.

Questions sent to Mr Amrit and FBC chief executive Tarun Patel on April 11, April 18 and May 11 regarding the vehicle’s status remain unanswered.
