SODELPA management board member Seremaia Tuiteci says no party won the 2022 General Election outright.

Mr Tuiteci, who was part of the management board meeting that resolved to elect Parliament backbencher Aseri Radrodro as the new party leader, said there was no need for a new leader.

“My question to the board was, did we lose the general elections of 2022?,” said Mr Tuiteci.

“No one won the elections outright in GE 2022.

“We all lost. There were no winners. FijiFirst won 26 seats, PAP 21, NFP five and us three. We all lost.”

Mr Tuiteci also asked the board why it was rushing to elect a new leader.

“Why is there an urgency to change the party leader?

“That is my question, when we are still virtually two years away from the next general elections.”

Mr Tuiteci said he was not able to cast his vote towards the end of the meeting because he had to lodge a complaint against the SODELPA headquarters for issues related to the party’s accounts.
