New vehicle for ‘environment ranger’

THE Nasinu Town Council produces around 16,000 tonnes of waste annually which costs the council about $1.4 million. This is expected to reduce after the Indian High Commission handed over a $54,767 Mahindra Scorpio twin cab vehicle dedicated to the council’s environment department.

Officiating at the handover, Minister for Local Government, Environment and Housing Parveen Kumar said the vehicle would now assist the council with the issue of rubbish in the Nasinu area.

“We know that Nasinu is the biggest municipal in the country,” Mr Kumar said. “We have a genuine issue of illegal dumping of rubbish.

“This vehicle will be assigned by the town council with an environment ranger appointed to take care of the vehicle and ensure the care of the environment in Nasinu.”
