New Referees Complete Level 1 Course

THE Fiji Football Association has bolstered its match official ranks following an OFC Level 1 Referees Course held last week which saw 24 new referees become qualified.

The course was run over three days with FFA referees director Rakesh Varman particularly pleased to see the number of young people and females taking part.

“It shows there is huge interest in refereeing,” Varman said.

“We had around nine female participants and most of them were students. It is great to see females interested in joining refereeing.

“All participants showed enthusiasm in taking the challenge to become a referee.”

Varman said the course was designed to equip new referees with key skills and knowledge they would need to referee grassroots football matches safely and effectively.

“There were lots of videos to demonstrate how the laws of the game should be applied, activities to help reinforce the important points, and at the end of each module there were some questions to test what they had learned,” Varman said.

“This is a pathway and opportunity for the participants to develop.”
