RENOWNED local tourism services and transport operator, Tewaka, has been inducted into the Fiji Excellence in Tourism Awards Hall of Fame.

The induction was conducted at the ANZ FETA launch in Nadi on Wednesday,

Tewaka joins the ranks of tourism icons Vatuvara Private Islands, Likuliku Island Resort, Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort and Rosie Holidays in the prestigious recognition.

The company’s managing director, James Sowane, said it was an honour for them to be granted FETA recognition.

“We are a young team and for us, it is all about our team,” Mr Sowane said.

He said Tewaka would also be celebrating its 25th year in business and that they’ve been very proud of the journey.

“I thank the tourism industry for giving us that opportunity.

“I always tell the community, particularly to the iTaukei community, that tourism gives a fair chance to every single person who wants to have a go.

“Tourism teaches operators and Fijian communities that in our industry, when the whistle goes, there is no half-time or full-time, it is 24 hours, seven days per week for the 365 days of the year.”

Mr Sowane said that over the years the company has developed so many young talents.

“We rebranded after we finally made it out of COVID-19 and we were determined to be resilient.

“Tewaka means to grow and that is the spirit that we want to take on.”

The FETA Hall of Fame was created in 2017 to honour hotels/resorts and tourism operators who have won in a category for three consecutive years in commemoration of the achievement.
